smwx grew out of its sister firm smwlaw. I established smwlaw (www.smwlaw.co.uk) after quitting "big law" to focus on developing a new, value based, style of legal advice.

It soon became clear that in the field of debt financing there was a demand for a service which was far wider than advising on the legal terms and issues behind financings.

What issuers and investors wanted was a clear, independent overview of the debt markets, particularly in the ever growing field of leveraged finance. Governing law was not an issue, but the commercial terms and how each deal compared with others was key. This was the genesis of smwx; a firm which draws upon the recent and historic experience of its members to advise on what is happening in today’s leverage debt markets; where they are going and what the consequences might be.
